Dona Kireta

DonaI graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Adelaide University majoring in genetics and ecology. I am interested in exploring how genetics is applied in conservation and restoration contexts. My current honours project (supervised by Martin Breed and Andy Lowe) is a study of the population genetic structure of three Goodenia species across South Australia. In particular my project aims are:

  1. to explore breaks in genetic connectivity across major SA land features
  2. to identify centers of genetic diversity and refugia in this study region
  3. to apply this information to conservation and restoration guidelines

To address these aims, my project involves a combination of fieldwork across SA for population sampling, lab work for leaf sample preparation and DNA sequencing, and analysis to interpret population structure.
